Freiburg is the city with the most sun hours in Germany. In the middle of the Black Forest, it offers the perfect combination of city experience and nature for the whole family but also culinary delights in the old town of Freiburg. Outdoor action on mountain bike trails or relaxation in the countryside whether in our parks, on the Schlossberg or in the Black Forest.
Or... you can go and see some art! Art in public is something wonderful, because it is accessible 24/7, you don't have to buy a ticket and you can look at it as long as you want, without anyone clearing their throat behind you, because he/she also wants to catch a glimpse.
The sculpture, made by Ole Meinecke as part of a semester project in 2001, is one of the most popular postcard motifs in Freiburg. "Please do not feed" is written on a sign on the railing of the industrial canal in the Gerberau. Today it belongs to the Himmelsbach family, whose textile cleaning the crocodile looks up to.
Because the artist Eberhard Rau did not give his work a name when winning a competition with it in 1973, the residents could choose one themselves. According to their creator, also a freelance architect, the the two twelve-metre high sculptures depict a man and a woman, but the third is not their child, but shows a faunus. This demigod from Roman mythology is the god of the open countryside and reminds us of the former wooded area that had to make way for the new district.
